It is possible to see platypus at any time of the day, but our best chance is just after dawn. We pick you up from your Byron Bay accommodation and drive to the special platypus area. From there we start our 90- minute easy walk along the creek looking for platypus. Your guide will lead you at a gentle pace, showing you what to look for and sharing insights about this much-loved and quirky Australian animal. We usually see one or two platypus, loads of birds and sometimes even koalas. After watching the platypus have their breakfast we relax with ours – a picnic by the creek – before returning to Byron Bay. We can’t guarantee platypus sightings on this tour, but don’t worry. If we don’t see them, we take you on another day, free. Come with us to see Australian wildlife in the wild – not a zoo or sanctuary. Our Wildlife Safari takes you to three different habitats near Byron Bay. You’ll visit eucalyptus forest, rainforest and grassland to discover the animals that live there. We guarantee you’ll see a koala or two, a mob of kangaroo, a whole colony of flying fox and many species of bird. If conditions are right you may also see pademelon, echidna, tawny frogmouth and water dragons. See koalas in the wild. We take you where they live and go in search of these super cute aussie icons. Join us for a half day koala experience. We will take you where the koalas live in the wild and go in search of these super cute Aussie icons. You will spend about an hour exploring koala habitat and spotting koalas. Afterwards we will treat you to morning tea of local tea or coffee and delicious Byron Bay cookies. We guarantee that you will see koalas. How many you see varies. Sometimes the ones you do see are asleep high up in the trees – that’s koalas for you! We estimate that you will see between two and 10. Koalas are in danger of extinction. As an eco-tour company, we hold to a high standard of care and responsibility. This means we do what we can to protect and preserve them. We vary the locations for our koala tours to minimise our impact. We also go a step further. For each person on the tour, Vision Walks makes a donation the relevant koala organisation. On this tour, guests are taken on an easy walk while learning about significant places and hearing local history and traditional stories. There are opportunities to learn some Bundjalung language and about bush food, natural medicine, tools, weapons and artefacts. At the end of the tour, guests enjoy tasting some delicious bush tucker foods and have nice cup of bush tea and a biscuit. Meeting Place This tour takes place at The Pass (Brooke Drive, Byron Bay NSW 2481). The meeting place is beside the bottom car parking area where there is a large sign that says ‘Palm Valley’. Please be mindful that you will need to pay for parking at The Pass and it can be very busy, so please allow some time to find a car park.
Our patented night vision bushwalk is the only one of its kind in the world! imagine exploring the australian rainforest at night, searching for nocturnal wildlife. instead of wielding a torch you�ll wear special night vision goggles. this is military grade technology that lets you see animals as they go about their business. because we don�t use bright lights we are less intrusive and that means we can be more connected to what is going on all around us. for many of our clients, seeing the forest in the dark is an enlightening experience. after your walk enjoy a hot chocolate gazing up at the starry night. heaven! nights with less moonlight are best for a night vision bushwalk. on a typical night we see five species. our regular sightings include possum, pademelon, bandicoot, tawny frogmouth, leaf tailed gecko, fucsipes, melomys, micro bats and frogs. we do our very best to give you a great experience, but of course, we are dealing with nature so we cannot guarantee animal sightings. please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements when you book. these walks are not recommended for people with epilepsy.
